Gallente Rebalance: Thorax Hulls

Various proposals have been put forth to reblance Gallente ships and Hybrid turrets. The CSM rejected all of the proposal that has been put to a vote. Some of the reasons include the proposals being to vague, they were to board and would most likely overpower something, and they make hybrids work too much like projectiles and lasers. Hopefully these proposal will alleviate and will be approved by the CSM to be raised to CCP. Instead of making a proposal to fix all Gallente ships I will be concentrating on ships based on the Thorax hull. This will allow me to propose specific fixes for each ship (with numbers!). I am also proposing that they make the changes for each ship individually rather than all at once.

Thorax

The Thorax suffers from a lack of CPU and powergrid to fit a buffer tank along with medium weapons. The current stats can not even fit a 800mm plate on Heavy Ion Blaster II’s without a reactor control unit. Comparatively the Rupture can fit 220m Vulcan AutoCannon II’s and a 1600mm plate and has comparable DPS, longer range, is faster, and has a much larger buffer. The Thorax should be able to fit a comparable build to the Rupture.

Here are the proposed changes to the Thorax base attributes to allow this fit.

As you can see I've increased the CPU and powergrid to allow fitting of the Heavy Ion Blaster II's and a 1600mm plate. This brings the Thorax more inline with what I think a blaster ship should be. It now has the buffer to survive getting in range of other ships along with increased DPS by being able to fit larger blasters. Getting into range would still be a problem for the Thorax so I have also increased the base speed. This now makes armor buffered Thorax faster than a armor buffered Rupture. Note that I chose a speed that makes the Thorax slower than the Stabber. I feel blaster boats should still have trouble catching Stabber and its variants.

The increase to capacitor is to bring the Thorax inline with the Vigilant.

Even with the proposed changes I do not believe it is enough to bring the Thorax inline with other cruisers. I would like CCP to explore changing the damage bonus to 10% or dropping the Microwarp penalty bonus and changing it to a 10% per level fall off bonus. Or both.

Our first war dec

Yesterday the Alliance was war dec'd by Universal Moose Foundation [TUMF]. The CEO's received the following EVE mail:

War Deck

Hello.

We are offering to end the war deck for 250m and disclose the reason why you got decked, or we will have to fulfill our obligation and hunt your corporation.

Alex.

My response:

Re: War Deck

I usually get decked by people upset over the dirty things I do to their mothers. I've never been war dec'd because of it before. If I had to guess this war is over someones mother. I've always wondered what moose tastes like...

Hopefully my smack talking will actually lead to some PvP. I have a feeling this is going to be a very uneventful war.

Aura 0.4.0

Greetings fellow capsuleers! I am pleased to announce that Aideron Robotics has, with further research, gained a deeper understanding of Sleeper AI technology. Our top engineers and scientists have continued to integrate this advanced technology directly into to the capsule's AI unit.

Capsuleers with a compatible pod wishing to try out the new Aura AI unit can stop by any Aideron Robotics office to have their pod upgraded.

###

Enough role playing! What's new? [full version history]

In this version we've added the ability to view assets in your personal hangar (corporation assets will appear in a future version). A complete database of all published items was added to support this feature. Just like other EVE monitoring tools the data files are automatically downloaded. The data files are stored on the SD card in a directory named 'aura' off the root of the SD card and requires around 20 MB of storage.

To view your assets for your characters you will need to enter your full access API key. If you've entered a limited access key you can re-add the key by either updating the api_keys.txt file on the SD card or sending yourself and email with the a link that contains the full API info.

A new list item called 'Assets' now appears under the character sheet. If you have entered a full access key for that character you will be presented with a list of all of your assets.

Touching on an item will bring you to the details page that contains information about where those items are located and how many are at that location. Let's take a look at the Hobgoblin II's.

As you can see I own a total of 34 Hobgoblin II's spread across four locations. This activity was designed give you a quick overview of where your items are located and stored. Two icons, the ship icon and the hangar icon , are displayed to help in quickly figuring this out. There are three different combinations of icons which may appear. In the common case, when all the items are in your hangar, no icons are in displayed. If all the items are fitted to ships, or in ship holds or bays, then the ship icon is displayed alone. Finally, if some items are in the hangar, and some in ships, then both the ship and hangar icons are shown.

Let's take a look at an example where both icons appear, by touching the entry for Stetille II.

You can see from this activity that 10 of the Hobgoblin II's are stored in the hangar and 5 are in the Dominix 1220455934 (too bad the API won't give us ship names!). From this activity you can see that Dominix has the Hob IIs. You can even check if you remembered to put the drones in the drone by touching the Dominix to get more detail.

When you touch a ship, either from the main assets list or from the details page of another item, you will be taken to a activity that contains three tabs: Fittings, Cargo, and Drones.

As I said earlier we've included a full item database which includes the descriptions and attributes of each of the items. You can view the details for an item by simply touching on the blue info icon.

Why wasn't feature XYZ implemented?

The simplest answer is time. The current state of the assets feature is good enough to be useful and I've decided to release it in its current state. My hope is that I will be able to release smaller updates when I complete new features rather than doing a big monolithic change like this one.

What's next?

The two most notable things that are missing from this release is the ability to search and filter your assets and the ability to browse the item database. The item database is mostly ready but was intentionally disabled for this release. I am still working on a good way to navigate to top-level features like the item database without slowing down the common case of checking on your skill training.

Market comments

I would like to close with the following request. If you are having issues with Aura please email me at aura@aideronrobotics.com. I don't check the market comments that often and even if I did it is a real pain to reply to them in that tiny little comment box.
